Set Design Research
I started my research by analysing different ways to construct a set.
Space & Composition
-
creating a set/location that interacts with the models' bodies - playing with space and compositions of the bodies as if they were props
-
interesting, playful, colourful vibes
-
usually on larger scales
-
shooting from unusual angles (ex: from above)
Props & Colors
-
using lots of props with the same aesthetics, styles, colours to create a visually consistent mood
-
using certain body parts of the models without showing the faces or the whole body (body parts interacting with the set)
-
overlaping objects to play with space and colours to create supernatural visual effects
-
creating a set focusing on one object instead of a model wearing garments
Material & Texture & Pattern & Colour
-
using backdrop or fabrics (usually large) that match with the material, texture, pattern, or colour of the garments.
Cinematic Narrative
-
constructing a scene that looks as though a screenshot from a movie
-
using poses in motion to enhance the cinematic atmosphere
-
using props, poses, facial expressions to indicate the narrative
Garments + Styling
-
The styling of the garments are the focuses of the image
-
The garments are often political, cultural or symbolic.
Costume & Special Effects Makeup
-
using delicate costumes along with special effects makeup to construct dreamy, supernatural, cinematic scenarios.
